Whitewater Rafting and Wine Tasting Tour Experience the thrill of whitewater rafting in the heart of California's Gold Country. Splash, laugh and bounce your way down Class III rapids and then enjoy a BBQ lunch and a taste of some local wine. Travel from San Francisco in a biodiesel van for your American River whitewater rafting and wine tour into the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Descend 8 miles of the American River down Class III rapids such as Meat Grinder, Triple Threat and Troublemaker. During the trip you will float past the historic gold discovery site of Sutter's Mill.

Change Fee Policy: If changes are allowed on a tour or activity, a $20.00 per reservation change fee will be applied for any change to a reservation. Please note that some tours and activities do not allow any changes. Date changes can be made only if we can confirm availability on the new date. While we cannot guarantee any changes can be made, all change requests must be submitted a minimum of 24 hours prior to the tour departure and must be handled on an individual basis through our Reservations Center. Important Notes If you are not staying at a hotel in the city of San Francisco, you may meet the tour at the Tour Terminal in San Francisco (specific address to be provided on your E-Ticket), or you may pre-arrange for pickup at any hotel in the city of San Francisco. If you will be traveling into San Francisco from the airport area or anywhere served by Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART), an excellent option is to take BART to the Powell Street Station and be picked up at the Parc 55 Hotel across the street from the Powell Street Station. All pickup locations must be pre-arranged. You will be asked to specify your pickup location on the Order Form. Itinerary: The day begins with a pick-up from your lodging between 6 and 7 am. The biodiesel van heads east across the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, which offers great early morning views of the San Francisco skyline, the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz Island and the East Bay. There's a stop for a quick breakfast (not included in ticket price) in the Central Valley. Famous for its rich volcanic soil, the Central Valley is a booming agricultural region known for almonds, grapes, tomatoes, peaches and strawberries. After the breakfast stop, the journey continues up through the cattle and horse ranching foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains to the American River. The Class III whitewater action begins immediately with Meatgrinder rapids, followed by other exciting cascades including Racehorse Bend, Rock Garden, Triple Threat, and climaxing with a mad dash through the famed Troublemaker rapid. The raft trip ends as it pulls ashore at camp where your guides prepare a tasty barbeque lunch. After lunch, there is time to play some beach volleyball and relax by the river. We think it's important to explore the Gold Country, so we will head over to a local winery for some tasting before heading back to the city (wine tasting fee may apply, not included in ticket price). The tour ends with a hotel drop off between 6:00 and 6:30 pm. What is Provided? In April and May, the water is cold and the flow rate is higher. Though the weather is warm, wetsuits and booties are provided. From June through September, the the weather is hot and the water is refreshing, so wetsuits are not necessary. What is NOT Provided? Breakfast en route, wine tasting fees (if applicable), and gratuities. No Experience Necessary Your safety is the main concern. A brief safety talk is given before anyone gets in the water. The South Fork of the American River is a Class III river system. This is ideal for beginners as well as intermediate paddlers. No prior whitewater experience is necessary, but participants are required weigh at least 80 pounds and be at least 8 years of age. This tour includes San Francisco hotel pick-up and drop-off, American River rafting with all safety gear and equipment, BBQ lunch, professional driver/guide, travel in a biodiesel van, fuel surcharge, and wine tasting (valid government-issued ID showing age 21 or above required for wine tasting).
